Round 2 Pick 28 (60): Baltimore Ravens select Ronnell Lewis, OLB, Oklahoma
The Ravens worked to shore up their center position in the first round, and Ozzie Newsome has been pretty clear that his top priority is to improve the left guard position. That's great and all, but Ozzie isn't welcome in my war room. What the Ravens need is a hybrid linebacker that they can move all over the field and create matchup nightmares, just like they used to do with Adalius Thomas. Lewis had the best shuttle time and the best bench press results for his position at the Combine, so you know he is a great athlete. He played as a Mike, a Sam, and a rush defensive end in college; he played 8-man football in high school, lining up in the secondary, linebacker, and running back positions. Most importantly, he was productive in college, proving to have exceptional skills shedding blocks and finishing tackles. He is also a guy who can stay on the field all three downs. Sergio Kindle was supposed to be the answer at OLB after he fell to the Ravens, but when a talent like Lewis falls into your lap, you need to pull the trigger. - Justin!!!
Round 2 Pick 39 (61): San Fransisco Forty Niners select Chris Givens, WR, Wake Forest
The Niners have tried to address one of their biggest weaknesses from last season through free agancy by signing Randy Moss and Mario Manningham. But they need a long term answer at the position and Givens might be just that. He is an explosive player who plays as fast on the field as he runs on the track. Some scouts have described him as the best route runner in the class and a hidden gem. The Niners are hoping that to be the case. - Joe-l
Round 2 Pick 40 (62): New England Patriots select Trumaine Johnson, CB, Montana
Well, guess the Pats won't be taking Dennard at CB anymore. We considered both Mike Martin and Ben Jones at this spot, but figure to get other help at C and DT in the coming rounds. It is time to address the elephant in the room. The Patriots secondary needs some playmakers. We made selections to put pressure on the QB (with more selections coming), but now it is time to stop the ball when it does leave the QB's hands. Trumaine might not play in a prestigious conference, but he has ability greater than you can expect coming from the Big Sky. He is a little slow- which can get him burned on double moves- but his size (6'2", 200 lbs) and jumping ability (35 inches) should make him almost impossible to throw the goal line fade that teams seem to depend on. He has understandably dominated every receiver he has ever faced, but don't underestimate him just for playing in the FCS- he is NFL-ready. As a former receiver, he has strong hands that can easily pick the ball from the air. He is also a strong tackler, and matches up well in press coverage. He will need to develop his skills against top-notch receivers, so expect a bit of a learning curve for Trumaine. He should fit well in zone as well as man coverage. Given the Pats actions with last year's secondary, Trumaine could even find himself playing a few snaps at FS. Hopefully his skills develop quickly in practice against quick receivers like Brandon Lloyd and Wes Welker. - Jeremy
Round 2 Pick 41 (63): New York Giants select Vinny Curry, DE, Marshall
With Osi on his last year and Tuck not being able to stay healthy the Giants need some young talent to pair with JPP and add depth to their pass rush. Curry is a great pass rusher who can do a number of things on the field. The Giants are ecstatic to get him at this point. - Joe-l
