SKOHRboard's 2012 Mock Draft Picks 13-16

Round 1 Pick 13 Arizona Cardinals select Jonathan Martin , OT, Stanford
At the same time football fans watched Kevin Kolb struggle behind a patchwork line, they watched Andrew Luck sling the rock behind one of the more talented lines in college football. Going a few picks after his teammate, Martin steps into Arizona as a strong pass blocker with high intelligence to pair with somewhat of a mean streak. Martin is a big upgrade, and should be the first in a series of draft picks that will let the Cardinals truly evaluate just what they have in Kevin Kolb. (Spoiler alert- they have an inaccurate pansy). - Jeremy

Round 1 Pick 14 Dallas Cowboys select Dre Kirkpatrick, CB, Alabama
The Cowboys have been busy in free agency, signing CB Brandon Carr to help out a sieve-like secondary, two guards, and of course the indomitable Kyle Orton. This team is able to compete for a playoff spot, so this pick gives them the option to choose whether they should draft based on best-player-available or to specifically address a team need. Defensive end wasn't exactly a strong point for this team, so that is certainly an option to consider. Dontari Poe was another prospect, but I for one don't think his talents in shorts should make up for his shortcomings on tape. Safety is another position that needs to be considered here. Ultimately, this decision came down to two players that were in the same college secondary: Dre Kirkpatrick and Mark Barron. At the end of the day, the Cowboys need to fix that secondary, and a big physical corner like Kirkpatrick will be able to help defend the pass and he'll be even better when he has to step up and stop the run; his play has been compared to Quentin Jammer. There probably won't be a better tackling corner in this draft. He had that pot arrest, but since when does Dallas care about anything like that?  - Justin!!!

Round 1 Pick 15: Philadelphia Eagles select Ryan Tannehill, QB, Texas A&M
Oh boy. Some Eagles fans are going to hate this one. The beat writers will love it because of all the drama and endless storylines it creates, which as an Eagles fan myself, will bother me to no end. However, smart people will see that it's the perfect pick. Tannehill is described as having all the physical tools, the football intelligence, and work ethic to be a good QB but he just doesn't have the experience. Yes it's tough to get real experience in the NFL if you aren't the starting QB but in this scenario he'll have at least two years to learn under Andy Reid and behind Vick (probably with a game or three sprinkled in here and there) before being handed the QB1 title. Tannehill is also a mobile threat similar to McNabb (fast and agile but not Vick fast and agile). If anyone is capable of pulling this off successfully it's Andy Reid. I don't buy that Andy must win a Super Bowl this year or he's out (and therefore needs to pick immediate impact players), they have to make a playoff run and I think they'll do that this season even if they use their 1st Round pick on a guy they don't expect to see the field until 2014. - SKOHR

Round 1 Pick 16: New York Jets select Dontari Poe, DT, Memphis
The Jets thought long about Riley Reiff as they currently have the worst right tackle in the NFL, as well as a defensive end for rushing the QB. Instead, the Jets go with the guy that most reminds them of Kris Jenkins, and their defense has not been the same since he got hurt. The Jets used to be able to shut down the run inside, which combined with Revis Island, could create blitz schemes that scared opposing offenses. Poe can play the nose, is a freak athlete, and needs a defensive guy to get the most out of him and Rex Ryan feels he can make that happen better than anyone. - Jim Mut
