SKOHRboard & Stangs League 2011 NFL Mock Draft: Picks 53-56

It's lucky Day 13 of the SKOHRboard & Stangs League 2011 NFL Mock Draft and would you just look at what it's brought us already, a potential end to the lockout!  Judge Nelson ruled in favor of the Players and pending a stay of her ruling through the NFL's appeal, league business complete with Free Agency could begin as early as Wednesday at 6:00PM.  As we get comfortable on the edges of our seats, let's take a look at the next four picks in our Mock Draft.

We have highly qualified NFL experts who have each been assigned the role of temporary GM for several NFL teams and we will go through the first two rounds selecting the best players for our respective teams.  While you follow along, I'd like to urge you to give us your feedback and please feel free to lobby for your respective team's GM to pick whatever player you feel is best suited to them.

Here are the GMs for each team.

Dikembe Mutombo - Seattle, Carolina, Cleveland, Detroit, San Diego, Atlanta, Green Bay
Justin! - Minnesota, Denver, San Francisco, St. Louis, Tampa Bay, New Orleans
Joel - New York (G), Buffalo, Tennessee, Miami, Kansas City, Chicago, Oakland
Jeremy - Pittsburgh, Houston, Cincinnati, Dallas, Jacksonville, Indianapolis,
SKOHR -  Philadelphia, Arizona, Washington, Baltimore, New England, New York (J)

>>SKOHRboard & Stangs Mock Draft 2011, Indianapolis Colts
Round 2 Pick #21 (53), Rodney Hudson, OG, Florida State <<
by Jeremy

The Colts were thinking DT here as well, but when it comes down to winning, do you think their main concern is plugging the middle, or protecting Manning? The Colts are taking a four-year starter with a ton of trophies on his mantle. He can be plugged in at any of the three interior line positions, and good enough to start in any of them. Twice selected as the most dominating lineman in the ACC, he is a fantastic addition for the Colts, especially when paired with first-round pick Gabe Carimi. The Colts know what moves the chains, and their pledge to improve the line has netted them two consensus All-Americans.

>>SKOHRboard & Stangs Mock Draft 2011, Philadelphia Eagles
Round 2 Pick #22 (54), Marvin Austin, DT, UNC<<
by SKOHR

The Eagles would ideally be able to grab a top flight CB at some point in the first 2 rounds but because of a few DB hungry GMs in our league that isn't exactly possible here. After taking future star LB, Akeem Ayers in the 1st Round, the Eagles again look to add talent to a young and hungry defense by taking Marvin Austin, DT from North Carolina.

Austin is extremely athletic for a guy who weighs 310, in fact he ran the 40 in 4.84 seconds which was the 2nd fastest of any DT and easily the fastest of anyone who weighed in over 300lbs. In terms of talent alone Austin is a lock 1st round pick, however, he has a few problems that caused him to slip this far. He has a very inconsistent motor. His ability to dominate games is diminished by his lack of hustle on some plays. That combined with his suspension last season due to "improper contact with an agent" means that some teams won't touch him. Fortunately the Eagles are a strong enough franchise with solid character up and down the roster that they feel, they can help steer this promising player in the right direction.

Seeing Ausitn play under one of the best D Line coaches in the game, new to Philadelphia Jim Washburn is going to be a lot of fun. Washburn has his guys attack the QB and if there is one thing that Austin's skill set will make him good at it's attacking upfield, penetrating, and getting after the QB. Eagles fans should be very excited about this pick. Eli Manning, Tony Romo (or maybe Jon Kitna), and now Jake Locker should be feeling very melancholy about this pick.

>>SKOHRboard & Stangs Mock Draft 2011, Kansas City Chiefs
Round 2 Pick #23 (55), Mikel Leshoure, RB, Illinois<<
by Joel

No one ran more than the Chiefs last year. They dominated on the ground with a two back system that allowed both running backs to stay fresh while hitting defenses with a power-speed one-two punch.  Thomas Jones is another year into his 30s and Kansas City is able to land a player some feel is the best RB in the draft. He is a perfect power compliment to Charles and provides the Chiefs with a very young and very talented one-two punch in the backfield.

>>SKOHRboard & Stangs Mock Draft 2011, New Orleans Saints
Round 2 Pick #24 (56), Allen Bailey, DE, The U<<
by Justin!

The Saints led off the draft with a first round pick based on value, grabbing the play-maker Ingram at running back. In the second round, they will be forced to go after a need player, and that guy has to be on the defensive line. We're torn between taking the 300-pound DT from Southern Cal in Jurrell Casey and the versatile 285-pound DE from Miami in Allen Bailey. Either way we are ending up with a run-stuffer who was smart enough to play his college ball somewhere beautiful. Coach Gregg Williams is a defensive coordinator who has had great success employing an attacking 4-3 that aims to put constant pressure on the opposing quarterback. Ultimately, we'll go with the guy who poses a bigger threat to the quarterback, and while it's a coin toss, Bailey makes sense to pair up with Will Smith to try to up the sack total for this defense. Plus, the recent addition of Shaun Rogers gives the Saints a bit more time to address the need at DT.

Fun fact: Bailey grew up on Hog Hammock in Sapelo Island in Georgia, which can only be reached by air or boat and currently boasts a residence of around 50 people. Bailey thus grew up in relative isolation, yet he was one of the most highly sought prospects going to college. Bailey has enormous hands and extremely long arms, but there is a bit of a knock on his football IQ. The Saints are hoping that by being able to coach this guy up, his athleticism will make him a great player. His upside and talent make him the move here.

Bailey played primarily at DE, but he also has the ability to move inside to DT or play standing up at OLB. All three are a position of need for New Orleans. He has drawn some comparisons to Robert Ayers, a guy who played DE and OLB in college and has done the same in the pros with Denver.
