SKOHRboard & Stangs League 2011 NFL Mock Draft: Picks 36-40

We have less than a week to go and the SKOHRboard & Stangs League 2011 NFL Mock Draft is right on pace to finish up on April 28th.  It's Day 9 of our draft and we are just getting into the 2nd Round.  This is where teams will have the ability to start showing their draft expertise by taking valuable players who may have slipped or grabbing hidden gems others might not see the greatness in.  Today we have five picks from Denver, Cleveland, Arizona, Tennessee, and Dallas.

We have highly qualified NFL experts who have each been assigned the role of temporary GM for several NFL teams and we will go through the first two rounds selecting the best players for our respective teams.  While you follow along, I'd like to urge you to give us your feedback and please feel free to lobby for your respective team's GM to pick whatever player you feel is best suited to them.

Here are the GMs for each team.

Dikembe Mutombo - Seattle, Carolina, Cleveland, Detroit, San Diego, Atlanta, Green Bay
Justin! - Minnesota, Denver, San Francisco, St. Louis, Tampa Bay, New Orleans
Joel - New York (G), Buffalo, Tennessee, Miami, Kansas City, Chicago, Oakland
Jeremy - Pittsburgh, Houston, Cincinnati, Dallas, Jacksonville, Indianapolis,
SKOHR -  Philadelphia, Arizona, Washington, Baltimore, New England, New York (J)

>>SKOHRboard & Stangs Mock Draft 2011, Denver Broncos
Round 2 Pick #4 (36), Corey Liuget, DT, Illinois<<
by Justin!

The Broncos front seven was absolutely dreadful last year, and the Broncos decide to follow up their Marcell Dareus selection with another versatile defensive lineman in Corey Liuget. His ability to get consistent pass rush from the three-technique and nose spots will excite teams using four-man fronts. His experience at the five-technique and nose tackle positions makes him a great fit for 3-4 teams, as well. As previously mentioned, John Fox plans on shifting his squad over to a 4-3 defense while occassionally mixing in a 3-4 front. This guy can do everything that Dareus, our #2 overall selection, can do. In a base 4-3 front, the Broncos will now have the ability to move these young athletes all over the line.

A few mocks have been talking about the possibility of Denver grabbing a QB in this draft, and while I understand that the new staff has nothing to do with Orton, Tebow, or Quinn, it would be outrageous to not address this pitiful excuse for a defense. Liuget is an absolute STEAL at this position. He has the legit skills - get it? his surname is pronounced "legit" - to be a starter from day one. He and Dareus can completely remake this defense. Corner and safety could have been addressed here, but not with a guy like Liuget available.

>>SKOHRboard & Stangs Mock Draft 2011, Cleveland Browns
Round 2 Pick #5 (37), Adrian Clayborn, DE, Iowa<<
by Dikembe Mutombo

The Browns already took Patrick Peterson earlier in the draft to help take care of the back end of the defense, now they must address the defensive line. Clayborn has 1st round talent, but had a down year as a Senior and questions regarding his health (Erb's Palsy) plus a weak display of strength on the bench press have pushed him down to the 2nd round. Clayborn is very big for a defensive end, he isn't that explosive, but has a strong lower half and great balance that make him a great pass rusher. Clayborn is the kind of player that the Browns know will help right away on defense, and will have something to prove to all the franchises that passed on him in Round 1.

>>SKOHRboard & Stangs Mock Draft 2011, Arizona Cardinals
Round 2 Pick #6 (38), Martez Wilson, LB, Illinois<<
by SKOHR

The Cardinals have a lot of solid options with this pick and I considered them all. Jon Baldwin to pair with Fitzgerald, Titus Young to really open up the offense, Brandon Harris to solidify the CB position opposite DRC, Phil Taylor to be the unmovable rock in the middle, Stephen Paea to do the same, and finally Ben Ijalana to help protect their shiny new QB.

However, at the end of the day Martez Wilson presents a value too great to pass up. The Cardinals need real help at OLB and Wilson can be that help. He will able to get after the QB and play the run equally well. Wilson has the size to play OLB now and can even move inside if need be. If he consistently plays as well in the NFL as he showed that he can at Illinois, Wilson could be a huge steal.

>>SKOHRboard & Stangs Mock Draft 2011, Tennessee Titans
Round 2 Pick #7 (39), Christian Ponder, QB, Florida State<<
by Joel

The Titans are desperate for a signal caller and they have Ponder fall into their lap in round 2. He is an NFL ready QB with a good arm and a good head on his shoulders. He has had perhaps the finest off-season of all the draft eligible QBs. Ponder’s NFL readiness is a huge plus for the Titans who are desperately in need of a signal caller. With a good training camp, he could step in on day one and be a productive starter in a run first offense like the Titans. The only question about Ponder is his health with three arm surgeries in two years.

>>SKOHRboard & Stangs Mock Draft 2011, Dallas Cowboys
Round 2 Pick #8 (40), Rahim Moore, S, UCLA<<
by Jeremy

The Cowboys have not had anything that could be called a strength at safety in years. Moore is the highest rated true safety in a fairly weak class, and he is likely to start for the 'Boys immediately. A team (that thinks it is) this close to the Super Bowl can afford to select need players before they reach their "draft value". Moore had a better Sophomore than Junior year, but his play as a three-year starter is impressive. He was a second-team All-American last year, and should parlay that talent into a respectable rookie year at the free safety position. He is a team captain and natural leader that will prove to be more mature than most others in this draft.

The Cowboys could have picked a defensive end at this point, but talent exists in the later rounds to find a few prospects. Moore can cover a lot of ground. If his talents around the ball improve to beyond what he showed in his second year, he can make this secondary a strength rather than a weakness.

Who is the last safety the Cowboys have had that would be considered decent? I'm thinking George Teague...
