March Madness Begins! SKOHRboard's Running Discussion of Day 1

Today marks the beginning of the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship Tournament.  Today is also St. Patrick's Day.  While I can't remember both of them happening on the same day that's not necessarily because it didn't happen but I probably just wasn't paying attention.  Either way there are lots of great match-ups today and because many of you will be at work or "working from home" I figured SKOHRboard would be a great place to get together.  So please feel free to use the comments section of this post as a running blog and discussion of the incredible to the inane goings on in today's games.

The action starts at 12:15 as 5th seeded West Virginia takes on a 12 seed, Clemson.

Don't forget to "like" SKOHRboard's Facebook page and follow @SKOHR on Twitter! You can easily do both in the gadgets to the right of the page. Thanks!

Today is going to be a great day. Plenty of Green Beer on hand and hopefully lots of Irish luck will fall on my brackets.

Well I can't wait. This is going to be a great day. Probably not going to be as productive as my employer hopes

Nice ending out of WVU to close out the first half. Clemson winning would probably crush a lot of brackets early, and that is the NCAA's fault for screwing with the play-in games including 12 and 11 seeds

Very good interlude by Tru TV there placing a quick Family Guy clip into the feed instead of another awful commercial. Well played Turner Family of Networks.

Justin! said...

hahah, yeah i saw that too. thought maybe my tv had become sentient

and Old Dominion goes into the half with a two-point lead! this game looks like it will be good. Pulling for ODU because Matt Howard looks like a leaner in beer pong, and we can't have that

How about Charles Barkley saying take a nap during the Temple-Penn St game later? Couldn't agree more

With the third game starting up now, decisions have to be made. I'm ditcing WVU game for Louisville game. supposed to be some stud on Morehead St that was recruited by Big East schools but they all realized he was dumb as a brick. Very interesting. Louisville definitely isn't that good. First upset?

SKOHR said...

I have a hard time believing that Big East schools would turn away a top prospect no matter how "brick" dumb he is. Some of these guys look they would have a hard time spelling S.A.T.

Kenneth Fareed or however you spell it. Double-double machine is good, but 58% free throw shooter might also have something to do with it

so was Louisville gonna plan on scoring at all today?

SKOHR said...

Yeah that kid Faried is pretty good.

Old Dominion getting killed inside on offensive rebound opportunities for Butler. Lesley Visser looks terrible in HD

SKOHR said...

Howard would be so annoying to play against. Like a tornado of teeth and nails.

SKOHR said...

Great end to the 1st half in that Morehead vs Louisville game.

Justin! said...

Wow, what an ending to bulter-odu

SKOHR said...

Gotta be kidding me with that finish by Howard. I figured that Butler had used up all of their luck with last year's run.
But seriously ODU really lost that game by missing countless layups

Dr. Vincent Herberger said...

Old Dominion could not make a layup on my grandma. Of course she is 6'3 and 250 pounds

Justin! said...

Princeton is officially making me nervous

SKOHR said...

Coming down to the last possession here for Morehead. Down 2 with the ball and under 30 seconds to go!

Louisville probably didn't want to miss the front end of a one-and-one with a two point lead

SKOHR said...

Yeah you're right, that is just poor coaching by Pitino

Justin! said...

WOW HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE SHOT BY MOREHEAD

Justin! said...

I bet that kid who missed the free throw feels like a real jerk

Justin! said...

ha, wow no call? Obviously when I said "Louisville definitely isn't that good. First upset?" I realy meant "Louisville definitely isn't that good. First upset?"

SKOHR said...

Yeah, how about that. This just got real.

Justin! said...

ah christ.

Obviously when I said "Obviously when I said 'Louisville definitely isn't that good. First upset?' I realy meant 'Louisville definitely isn't that good. First upset?'" I meant "Obviously when I said 'Louisville definitely isn't that good. First upset?' I realy meant 'Louisville definitely isn't that good. First upset!'"

I love it when these games come down to ridiculous 3s at the buzzer. Great shot by Battle as PSU ties it up with Temple with 14 seconds to play.

SKOHR said...

Good for Temple. I've always liked that program.

Justin! said...

no clue how that shot went in for Temple

SKOHR said...

This extra staggering is really making it easier to catch all the great last minute action.

Now if only they could end the ridiculous play in games for 12 seeds by making them only for 16 seeds and stop calling today the "2nd" Round.

SKOHR said...

Honestly it would be awesome if Princeton wins this game.

Justin! said...

ha, I would agree with you if I didn't have Kentucky going all the way to the finals.

Justin said...

Kentucky better use up the whole shot clock here man...tied with 34 to go and 33 on the shot clock!

SKOHR said...

Ivy League = #1.
Surprised they didn't have 11 teams in the tourney this year.

Justin! said...

great play by mr. no points with 2 seconds left. i am cautiously optimistic that kentucky will not break my bracket before the sun goes down on the first day

SKOHR said...

Who is actually excited by Kentucky winning this game? The crowd is going crazy there. Why would anyone in attendance be pulling for Kentucky?

Gotta cheer for the underdog.

Justin! said...

yeah i was probably the only one rooting for
Kentucky. I AM currently rooting for Wofford to take down those heathens at BYU

SKOHR said...

This is like the opposite for me. I have BYU in the Final 4.

Jimmer just got crushed. Then one of the BYU guys said something to the ref and got T-ed up. I wonder if that is against the "Honor Code?"

Justin! said...

It has to be frowned upon. But so is physically harming a white male, so it probably cancels out

SKOHR said...

Who calls a travel there? That was such a close call it was like he was specifically looking to make a call there. I mean let the kid take a half court shot in that situation. Jerk ref.

Jim Mut said...

Great opening day, the early session was much better than the later. Sorry I wasnt on here more, I'll try harder tomorrow cause today I sucked. Didnt have my computer out at all.

SKOHR said...

It was a great day. Thanks for joining me on here. We'll have to get some other people to join us tomorrow too. I've got a great post coming tomorrow that is going to have a link to the live broadcast of every single game all day long! We can use that to do another live blog too.
