You've probably heard by now but the Denver Broncos fired their Head Coach Josh McDaniels yesterday. Which really puts the organization in the hole considering all of the roster turnover that McDaniels engineered over the past 2 years. His entire tenure as Head Coach was marred with questionable moves and who knows what the final straw was but he is definitely gone now and the Broncos have to try to pick up the pieces.
Last week McDaniels was given the dreaded "vote of confidence" from owner Pat Bowlen which is really just a clever way of saying "we'll be firing him next week and will use the next few days to come up with a good reason." Well now he is gone and we can look back at some of the bold (maybe crazy) moves that McDaniels made. Running his starting QB and budding star Jay Cutler out of town. Trading away his star WR Brandon Marshall. Drafting Tim Tebow in the first round!
Now someone else will have to deal with the ramifications of these moves and they can't be happy about it. Maybe they can get a coach who would love to work with Tebow rather than just wasting that pick and ultimately ruining the career of God's QB (I'm sure God's LB Ray Lewis would approve of QB choice). Maybe they could get Urban Meyer to turn pro and take his spread offense to the NFL so Tebow can shine with young offensive talent like Clady, Moreno, D. Thomas, Royal, Lloyd, and Gaffney. Actually wouldn't it be great if they could get Dungy to come out of retirement and coach again. I have a feeling that he and Tebow would get along like gangbusters.
Hopefully they can get a few of the billion top draft picks or so they've invested in 4-3 then 3-4 DEs and OLBs over the years to start playing well next year. In the draft and free agency, they'll need to pick up a few pieces for the secondary that are under 40 years old. Then the new coach will have to figure out who the QB of the future is in the Mile High city so he can continue to build a cohesive offensive unit. They have a number of pieces there already and if they can get one good draft in place plus a few solid free agents the Broncos can absolutely contend next year.
